Waterpolo

The sport is the most physically demanding of all team games, requiring top performers to cover up to three kilometres in the pool during the one hour it takes to complete a game. This exertion is quite apart from the physical contact, both above and below the surface of the water that players must endure. Despite this, the sport is almost totally devoid of injury from personal contact and generally speaking is played in the spirit demanded by the stringent rules.

WAWPI is the peak body for the sport in Western Australia. Through the hard work of a small team of staff and a committed group of volunteers it works to develop the participation of people in the sport as players, coaches, officials and club volunteers.

Aquatic polo was originally played in the Balmain Swimming Pool (Corporation Baths, White Horse Point) in the early 1880’s.. Teams were comprised of 12 players and the referee stood at the end of the diving board, over the pool, with a white and blue flag. Goals were scored by placing the ball in round lifebuoy.

Barracudas Water Polo club started back in 1963 as the Tugun Water Polo Club. Since that time, the club has been Queenland's Premier Water Polo Club winning more National and State Titles and Local Premierships than any other Club in the State. Since 1963, the Club has developed more Australian and State Representative players than any other Club in Queensland and continues to be at the forefront of Junior development.
